Layer 1: Take a note (by saving key excerpts from a book into a note-taking program)
Layer 2: Bold the best parts.
Layer 3: Highlight the best bolded parts.
Layer 4: Summarize the highlighted parts in your own words (at the top of the note)
Layer 5: Remix the note, turning it into a deliverable, such as a tweet, a tweetstorm, or blog post.
Don’t do this for every note!
If you follow the simple rule of summarizing a note every time you touch it, you’ll organically create a collection where the layers of summarization correspond to how integral that note is to your work. You can see at a glance how important a note is, without reading a word, just by how many layers it contains.
